Tip 4
Make the Most of YouTube
Do you have an internet connection at home? Are you the owner of a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or smart TV? If your answer to any of the above questions is yes, then you are living in a goldmine as it relates to exercise options. Many individuals have turned to YouTube when it comes to exercising as it is not only convenient but also inexpensive- no fees for a gym membership or a personal trainer. Additionally, I have found many of the YouTube fitness content to be extremely fun. It is like working out with a group even though you are alone. Importantly, there are an endless amount of videos that are led by certified instructors.
It is almost unbelievable some of the simple things that can derail us from our intentions. There were days when I would get home with all intention to go for a jog or to visit the gym. However, as soon as I got in through the door, I lost all motivation just by the simple thought of having to head back out after a long day. YouTube turned out to be the perfect solution that provided me with the ability to workout at any given time without having to leave my home. Another beautiful thing about working out with YouTube videos is flexibility. Even when I traveled for vacations or weekend getaways, I am still able to remain true to my commitment to consistent exercise. In the past, vacations and work conference was a scapegoat used to abscond daily workout. However, with YouTube, there are no excuses; it is like having my very own personal trainer on the go.
Again, Mandino in the book The Greatest Salesman in the World encourages us to develop good habits and become a slave to these habits. Once you have developed the habit of exercise, I encourage you to become a slave to it. This means no matter the circumstances you will show up for your daily workout sessions. No excuses!
Tip 5
Track and Leverage your Progress
This is a very important step in developing a habit of exercise. While motivation varies from individual to individual, success has been proven a source of motivation common to many. When I was able to see improvement in my fitness level by comparing where I was now to when I started, I felt encouraged to continue the journey.
It is also important that you leverage your progress. What do I mean by this? When I started my daily exercise routine, my focus was primarily on lower body workouts, in particular glutes and thighs. I can remember after being consistent for a couple of months, my husband complimented me on how rock hard my butt was. To date, it is still a most pleasing memory and on days when I don't feel like getting out of bed to exercise, that compliment which is a testament to my progress gets me moving.
